US citizens with a valid passport do not need a visa to visit the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for stays under one month. However, you must ensure your passport is valid for at least six months after your expected arrival date.
If you are traveling from somewhere other than the US, please consult https://www.visitdubai.com/en/plan-your-trip/visa-information for up-to-date information.
Your flight plans may include a layover, however, you want to end up at Dubai International Airport (DXB) in order to get to the event easily.
A range of Dubai taxi services are available and you can grab a cab from almost anywhere in the city, or order one by phone or via a ride-hailing app such as Careem or Uber. Careem is the preferred vendor for rides, food deliver, etc.
Airport taxis start from AED25 ($6.80), with clear signs pointing you towards the official pick-up area in any terminal.
Dubai is a sun soaked modern metropolis with so many things to do! We recommend flying in a few days before the event in order to get acclimated to the time change and adjust to jet lag.
The official language in Dubai is Arabic, however English is widely spoken. Nearly all street signs, restaurant menus and so on are bilingual, in Arabic and English and some popular tourist areas have signage in even more languages. The vast majority of Dubai's residents speak English, and it is also the primary business language in the UAE.
The dirham (AED) is the official currency of Dubai. However, Dubai is a global city with world-class infrastructure, and international credit cards are widely accepted. Before you travel, it's advisable to check with your bank about overseas transaction fees to ensure you get the most value out of your visit.
You’ll find that the vast majority of businesses across the city accept payments by credit or debit card, as well as other methods such as Apple Pay. However, it’s always advisable to carry some cash (AED) on you just in case.
Dubai is particularly famous for its eye-catching landmarks, including Burj Khalifa (the world's tallest building), Dubai Mall, The Dubai Fountain, Burj Al Arab, Palm Jumeirah (a man-made island in the shape of a palm tree) and more. The latest addition to the skyline is the stunning Museum of the Future.
Dubai is also known for its picturesque beaches and desert landscapes, as well as its excellent culinary scene – bursting with diverse flavors, it offers everything from homegrown favorites to cultural staples and celebrity hotspots.
There is no particular restriction in Dubai when it comes to women's clothing. Women in Dubai are also not obliged to wear a headscarf. Some choose to do so for religious and cultural reasons.
However, tourists and residents are asked to respect the local culture where appropriate. Wearing a bikini on the beach is perfectly fine, but not in a public space such as a mall. At religious sites such as mosques, women are asked to cover their hair and wear longer clothing.
Dubai is an open-minded and tolerant society where people from all over the world live harmoniously and respectfully. As with any destination, residents and tourists must abide by the local laws.
It is important to note that the moral code is stricter in the United Arab Emirates than in some parts of the world. For example, it is prohibited to drink alcohol in public places other than licensed hotels and their restaurants, as well as in dedicated lounges. Furthermore, excessive public displays of affection are not allowed.
The UAE has one of the lowest crime rates in the world and is widely recognised as being one of the safest places to live, work and visit.
